On June 14th more than 1,500 volunteers, celebrities, local politicians and members from the Washington region's business community came together for the 13th Annual Community Festival & Charity Basketball Tournament to support the academic accomplishments of Washington, D.C. public high school students.

On May 17, 2008 students and mentors came together for the final workshop of the year. Chris Simmons, Managing Partner for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP kicked the day off with his inspiration message to everyone. Hoop Dreams Scholarship Fund alumni ran the show coming back to serve as panelists, volunteers, and back up mentors. Mentors and students were able to ask the alumni about their college challenges and experiences as the current class of HDSF students prepare to head to college. Afterwards we had a celebration for the HDSF class of 2008 with a casino night. Thank you for another great year students and mentors!

On Wednesday, May 7, 2008, the Hoop Dreams Scholarship Fund celebrated its 10th Annual Congressional Reception in the Mansfield Room of the United States Capitol. More than 350 friends, students, political leaders and business leaders came together to celebrate the academic accomplishments of our students.

On Saturday, March 8th Frank Ross, Director for the Center for Accounting Education at Howard University shared his message with the students and mentors to begin the session. Author of the book "Quiet Guys Can Do Great Things Too", he graciously donated and signed copies of his book for all of the students and mentors. Afterwards students received the Hoop Dreams Scholarship application and students and mentors reviewed what they have learned up to this point with a game of Jeopardy.

On Wednesday, February 20, 2008 Hoop Dreams Scholarship Fund celebrated “A Midwinter Night’s Dream” with our friends at Harry’s Tap Room in Arlington, VA. Presented by EDS, the event brought together friends and colleagues for an evening of entertainment, food, and fun! But the highlight of the evening was our students – and celebrating their accomplishments and future successes!
